The Palapa Promise: Our Great Tour Guarantee

Because Your Time Deserves a Great Tour—or Your Money Back

At Palapa Tours, our mission is simple: create unforgettable, one-of-a-kind experiences on the beautiful Ottawa River. Whether you’re cruising on Moana, Lilo, or our Solar Palapa, we want you to leave with nothing but great memories, stunning photos, and maybe a few new friends. 🌅🍹

That’s why we’re proud to offer our Great Tour Guarantee:

If you don’t have a great time on your Palapa adventure, we’ll make it right. That could mean inviting you back for another cruise, issuing a refund, or offering a gift voucher for a future visit. Whatever it takes—because we value your time, your trust, and your support of our small, locally-owned business.

    What We Can’t Guarantee:

As much as we’d love to have control over everything, there are a few things we can’t promise:

    🚫 The Perfect Weather

Canada, eh? ☁️🌦 From surprise showers to cool summer breezes, Mother Nature likes to keep us guessing. But rain or shine, we keep the tropical vibes going strong under our thatched roofs—and sometimes, those moody skies make for the best photos.

    🚫 A Vintage Wine Cellar

We don’t have a vintage wine cellar—we’re a boat! But if you have a specific request for a certain wine, beer, or special drink, just give us a few days’ notice and we’ll do our best to make it happen. Yes, we’ve had guests ask about our wine cellar selection… and we took it as a compliment. 😉

🚫 A Private Cruise on Shared Tours

Unless you’ve booked a private experience, you may be cruising with other awesome guests. It’s part of what makes our tours fun—sharing laughs and island vibes with fellow adventurers.

    Why We Do This

You chose to spend your time with Palapa Tours, and we take that seriously. As entrepreneurs who started with just a dream and a love for water, we’re committed to making your experience one of the best parts of your summer. 🛥️☀️

So go ahead, book with confidence—and know that your good time is our guarantee.

    Book with Confidence

At Palapa Tours, we understand that plans change—and sometimes unexpectedly. That’s why we’ve introduced our Free Cancellation with Trip Protection policy to give you the ultimate flexibility and peace of mind when booking your tropical escape.

    ✅ What Is Trip Protection?

For just 10% of your ticket price, Trip Protection allows you to cancel or reschedule your cruise for ANY reason up to 48 hours before your scheduled departure—or receive a FULL refund (excluding the Trip Protection fee and any applicable processing fees).

Whether it’s a sudden schedule conflict, unexpected weather, or a change of heart, Trip Protection keeps your plans worry-free.

🔁 Without Trip Protection: What You Need to Know

If you choose not to add Trip Protection at the time of booking, you still have options:

    • You may cancel or reschedule up to 7 days before your tour without penalty.
    • Within 7 days of your tour, no refunds are available, but we will do our best to reschedule your tour to another date, depending on availability.

    ☀️ Rain or Shine Adventures

Our tours run light rain or shine—after all, some of the best memories are made in unexpected weather! However, in rare cases of severe weather or government closures (such as temporary restrictions around sensitive waterway zones), Palapa Tours reserves the right to adjust itineraries without offering partial refunds. That said, our team always strives to deliver a memorable and seamless experience, no matter the conditions.

🎫 Booking Is Easy—Opt In or Out at Checkout

Trip Protection can be added to your booking online or over the phone. Whether you’re planning for tomorrow or a month away, the option to protect your trip is always available.

🌊 Why Trip Protection Is Worth It

Life happens, and the last thing you need is to worry about losing your booking. For just a small fee, you’ll have the comfort of knowing you’re covered—no questions asked.

So when you’re planning your next cruise aboard Lilo, Moana, or our Solar Palapa, choose Trip Protection and focus on what really matters—relaxation, laughter, and great memories on the water.

  • Lowest Price Guarantee

    Lowest Price Guarantee

Book with Confidence, Cruise with Ease!

At Palapa Tours, we believe that your adventure should be unforgettable—and fairly priced. That’s why we proudly offer our Lowest Price Guarantee on all of our experiences.

    🌴 What Does That Mean?

If you find the same product at a lower price within three days of booking or while you’re in Ottawa, we’ll refund you the difference. No fine print. No hassle. Just sunshine, savings, and smooth sailing.

🧐 What About Those Other Sites Offering “Cheaper” Tours?

We get it. You’re planning a vacation or an unforgettable experience with friends, and a quick Google search shows third-party sites advertising our tours at a slightly lower price. Here’s the truth:

    • ✅ Resellers often add hidden fees at checkout – service charges, booking fees, and taxes that sneak up at the last minute.
    • ✅ You’re not always booking what you think – sometimes tours are rescheduled or modified without your knowledge.
    • ✅ You lose direct contact – if anything changes or you need to update your reservation, you’re stuck dealing with a middleman instead of our friendly team.

When you book directly with us, you’re not only getting the best price, but also:

    • 🚤 Direct communication with our staff
    • 📅 Priority booking options
    • 🍹 Insider perks like drink vouchers and early-bird upgrades
    • 💬 Real-time help if you need to change plans

    💡 Why Our Guarantee Matters

Planning a memorable experience shouldn’t feel like a game of price tag ping-pong. Our Lowest Price Guarantee gives you peace of mind so you can focus on what really matters: having a blast on the water, soaking in the views, and enjoying those sweet tropical vibes.

We love seeing guests choose us confidently, knowing they got the best deal possible—without compromise, confusion, or hidden fees.

    ✅ Bottom Line:

Found a lower price elsewhere for the same cruise? Show us, and we’ll match it.

Already booked? No worries—if you spot a lower price within three days, we’ll refund the difference.

So go ahead, grab your flip-flops, round up your crew, and book that Palapa experience with confidence.

Because life’s too short for buyer’s remorse… and full price. 🌺

  • Palapa Tours & The Mighty Throne

Palapa Tours & The Mighty Throne

A Guide to Our Toilets 🚽⛵

Ahoy, fellow adventurers! Welcome aboard Palapa Tours, where the drinks are cold, the vibes are tropical, and—yes, let’s talk about it—the toilets are composting.

Now, before you panic and start looking for the nearest bush, let me assure you: these aren’t your average outhouse-style boat toilets. We’ve got Nature’s Head Composting Toilets on board, and they’re designed for comfort, cleanliness, and, most importantly, odor-free operation.

The Golden Rule: Always Sit Down on a Moving Boat

First things first: if you need to use the facilities while we’re cruising, SIT DOWN. Trust me on this one. The last thing you want is a rogue wave turning your visit into an unexpected adventure. Unlike land-based restrooms, a boat toilet requires precision, balance, and a little bit of humility.

How It Works: The Magic of Separation

These aren’t your standard flush toilets. Our Nature’s Head system is built on one simple but genius principle: separating liquids and solids. Here’s why it matters:

    • Liquids go into a separate container, preventing odors.
    • Solids go into a composting chamber, where they mix with a natural composting medium (like coconut coir or peat moss). This helps them break down efficiently and without smell.
    • No water, no plumbing issues, no gross chemical toilet odors.

Keeping It Fresh: Your Role in Toilet Etiquette

Now, because we like to keep our boat smelling like a tropical paradise and not a public restroom, there are a few important rules:

✅ SIT DOWN – Yes, I’m saying it again. Moving boat, people.

✅ No paper in the toilet – A separate bin is provided for used paper.

✅ Liquids in the right place – The toilet is designed to separate, but it works best when users follow the system.

✅ Close the lid & turn the handle – A simple twist helps mix the solids into the composting material and keeps everything working properly.

    Why We Chose Composting Toilets

We believe in sustainability and keeping our waterways clean. Many boats use a marine toilet with a holding tank that is pumped out at the marina, and that’s what Palapa boats in other cities use. On our Ottawa boats we went with Nature’s Head composting toilets: eco-friendly, odor-free and green.

Plus, let’s be real—if you have to use the facilities on a boat, you want a system that actually works well. And this one does.

Final Thoughts (and a Friendly Reminder)

If you find yourself needing a pit stop while enjoying your Palapa Tour, now you know exactly what to do. Sit, aim, follow the rules, and let the composting magic do its thing.

Now, let’s get back to the fun part—enjoying the water, the sunshine, and the tropical vibes. Just know that when nature calls, we’ve got you covered. 🚤🌴

  • Can You Bring Your Dog on Board a Palapa Tour? 🐶🚤

Can You Bring Your Dog on Board a Palapa Tour? 🐶🚤

Great question! We love our furry friends, and we know many of our guests would love to bring their four-legged first mates along for the ride. However, there are a few things to consider before setting sail with Fido.

Public Tours: Proceed with Caution ⚠️

If you’ve purchased individual tickets for a public tour, bringing a dog can be tricky. Why?

    1. Allergies & Fears – Some passengers may have severe allergies or a fear of dogs, and we want everyone to feel comfortable on board.
    2. Space Considerations – While our Palapa boats are spacious, sharing the space with multiple groups means limited room for pets to move around.

    What This Means for You:

If a fellow passenger has an allergy or fear, you may be asked to switch to another time slot. We want to accommodate everyone, but this is something to be prepared for.

👉 The best advice? Be objective about your pup’s behavior and how they handle new environments. If they’re super chill and great with people, we’d love to have them on board—as long as it works for all passengers!

    Private Charters: No Problem! ✅

Booked a private charter? Then, yes, your dog is welcome! 🐕🎉 Since you’re reserving the entire boat for your group, there’s no concern about other passengers.

Just make sure your pup is comfortable on the water, and you’re good to go!

Safety First: Bring a PFD (Personal Flotation Device) 🦺

Regardless of whether you’re on a public or private tour, your dog must wear a PFD (Personal Flotation Device). While our boats are stable and safe, accidents can happen, and we want every passenger—human or furry—to be protected.

If you don’t already have a dog-friendly life jacket, we highly recommend picking one up before your cruise.

    Final Thoughts

    • Public Tours: Dogs are allowed, but you may need to reschedule if another passenger has an issue.
    • Private Charters: No problem! Bring your pup and enjoy the ride.
    • Safety First: All dogs must wear a PFD while on board.

We love making unforgettable memories on the water—and if your pup can join in the fun, even better! 🌊🐕

Got questions? Reach out to us, and let’s plan a paw-some adventure together! 🐶🌴🚤

  • Rock the Boat

    Rock the Boat

The Ultimate Guide to Music on Your Palapa Tour!

What’s a perfect day on the water without the perfect soundtrack? Whether you’re chartering a private boat with your crew or joining a ticketed tour, music sets the mood and makes the experience even more unforgettable. Here’s everything you need to know about curating your playlist, sharing it with us, and how we handle music on our public tours—including a fun way to support CHEO with song requests!

Music for Private Charters: Your Boat, Your Playlist!

If you’ve booked a private charter, you have full control over the vibe! Want a tropical beach party? A classic rock throwback? A chill sunset cruise with smooth jazz? The choice is yours.

Creating your own playlist ensures your group gets exactly the music they want. But before you hit play, here’s why it’s best to share your playlist with us in advance:

    • Save Your Phone Battery – No worrying about your phone dying mid-cruise.
    • Keep Your Phone Safe – No need to leave it on the counter where it could slide into the water (yes, it happens!).
    • Seamless Captain Announcements – If we need to share an announcement, we can lower the volume without disrupting the flow.

How to Share Your Playlist with Us

If you’ve created the perfect mix, send it our way before your tour! Here’s how:

    For Apple Music Users:

    1. Open your playlist in the Apple Music app.
    2. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
    3. Select “Share Playlist” and send it to us via email or message.

    For Spotify Users:

    1. Open your playlist in the Spotify app.
    2. Tap the three dots and select “Share.”
    3. Choose “Copy Link” and send it to us.

Pro Tip: A mix of classic summer jams and modern hits always works well. Think Margaritaville meets Uptown Funk. And while you may love goth or hardcore metal, make sure your playlist suits the overall vibe of your group!

Music on Public Ticketed Tours: Our Playlist, Your Requests!

If you’re joining a public tour (where tickets are sold individually), we’ll provide the playlist for the ride. Expect an upbeat mix of tropical, pop, and classic boat-friendly tunes to set the perfect backdrop.

However, we do take song requests—for a good cause! 🎶✨ If there’s a song you’re dying to hear, simply make a donation to CHEO (Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario) via the Crew and we’ll queue it up for you! It’s a fun way to add a personal touch to the trip while supporting an amazing cause.

Need Some Inspiration? Try This Palapa-Perfect Playlist:

    • Island in the Sun – Weezer

  • Parking Guide for Your Ottawa Palapa Tour Adventure

Parking Guide for Your Ottawa Palapa Tour Adventure

Your Palapa cruise starts from one of two docks, and you pick which one when you book. Here’s where to park, how to get there without a car, and a few tips so you’re on the dock with time to spare.

Plan to arrive 15 minutes early. That gives you time to park, walk down to the water and check in.

    Ottawa Locks

The Ottawa Locks dock is at 1 Canal Lane, at the foot of the Rideau Canal locks between Parliament Hill and the Château Laurier. From Wellington St, take the path down to the water beside the locks.

    Where to park

    • ByWard Market Garage, 70 Clarence St (City of Ottawa): about $4/hour in the day and $3/hour in the evening and on Sundays.
    • CF Rideau Centre garages (Impark): the Red Garage at 5 Daly Ave, entered from Colonel By Dr, is the closest to the canal. The Blue Garage is at 80 Nicholas St. Expect about $6/hour, or $22 for 4 to 12 hours.

    Without a car

    • O-Train Line 1: get off at Rideau or Parliament station and walk to the locks.
    • Taxi or rideshare: ask to be dropped on Wellington St at the Rideau Canal locks, beside the Château Laurier.

    Canadian Museum of History docks

The museum docks are in Gatineau, right across the river from Parliament, behind the Canadian Museum of History at 100 Laurier St.

    Where to park

    • Museum underground garage (Indigo), 100 Laurier St: about $2 per 30 minutes, or about $18 for the day. The height limit is 1.93 m (6 ft 4 in), and accessible spaces are on level P1.
    • Street parking: metered spots and public lots nearby, when available.

    Drop-off

Cars, taxis and rideshares can stop in front of the museum’s main entrance on Ceremonial Drive to drop off or pick up. There’s no parking there.

Leave the car if you’re drinking

There’s a fully licensed bar on board. If you plan to enjoy it, take transit, a taxi or a rideshare, or pick a designated driver.

    Tips for groups

    • Carpool or share a ride: downtown parking adds up fast for a big group.
    • Pick the dock that suits your group: the Ottawa Locks are easiest from downtown hotels and the ByWard Market; the museum docks are easiest from Gatineau.
    • Public tours may stop at both docks. That can add up to 15 minutes, but you still get your full 90 minutes on the water.

Parking rates are as posted by each operator in October 2026 and can change. Check before you go.
